As always, they were not only efficient, but neat and courteous. Their service and friendship have helped to make our stay here very enjoyable over the past three years.” — Jack C. “My partner and I have reached the point in our lives where we need our living space to be a lot more user friendly We moved from a large home in North Buffalo, with way too many stairs, to our lovely 3 bedroom unit with attached garage. Even our cat likes it here, especially the patio door, where she can watch the kids and the squirrels and the dogs in the dog park. I expect that we will be here for several years. Homemade Ice Cream - Yum-image

Last month we promised that in July we would share some homemade ice cream recipes for National Ice Cream Month, and here they are! So take advantage of your wonderful Renaissance Place Apartments kitchen, and try one — or all of these recipes this month! Our granite countertops are perfect for mixing extras into your ice cream, with an easy clean up too. We’re starting off our list with this No Churn Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream from Minimalist Baker . This quick and creamy treat doesn’t require an ice cream maker and only takes thirty minutes to make. Rich and refreshing, it really does hit the spot. This is a very luscious coconut ice cream . The only thing I will do differently next time is put the flaked coconut in the blender/processor with the milk and cream of coconut. The flakes made the ice cream a bit chewy in texture. Otherwise, this recipe is very easy and extra creamy. For those reviewers that are saying theirs turned out icy or not sweet, there is a huge difference between cream of coconut and coconut milk. It is like the difference between evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. Two brands to look for in cream of coconut are "Coco Lopez" and "Coco Colada". Any excuse to visit our local farmer’s market is a good excuse, and this No Churn Blackberry Chip Ice Cream from How Sweet It Is is the perfect reason to visit a farmer’s market or your favorite Williamsville area supermarket. Mix the creamy ice cream base with fresh berries and dark chocolate, freeze for six hours, and enjoy. This recipe, Strawberry Cheesecake Easy Ice Cream from Something Swanky , uses easy pre-made ingredients to make some seriously mind-blowing ice cream. The base is pretty standard — in fact, you could use it to make any number of flavors. For this recipe, you use store-bought strawberry filling and cream cheese to make the “cake” part of the mixture and Golden Oreo® cookies to make the crust. Mix it all together and freeze overnight for a treat as fresh, light, and breezy as a summer’s night. What is your favorite kind of ice cream? Did you try one of these or more of these? What was your favorite? We hope you enjoy celebrating National Ice Cream month here in Williamsville, NY! Thanks for reading today’s blog post.

Laundry Day at Renaissance Place Apartments-image

At Renaissance Place Apartments we are pleased to provide a wonderful array of amenities for our apartment community, including in-apartment, full size washers and dryers. Gone are the days of driving all over Williamsville, NY  looking for an open, clean, affordable laundromat for your laundry! Today we have some tips for making your laundry day go more smoothly. Stain Treatment We love Martha Stewart’s Tips for Perfect Laundry. We especially like Martha Stewart’s advice for getting rid of stubborn stains : “The best way to fix a stain is to treat it before it sets. Quickly scoop up solids with a dull edge, and blot liquids with a clean white cloth from the outside in to avoid spreading. Treat stains before washing, and always make sure stains have been removed before putting items in the dryer; heat sets stains into fabric.” Another good idea when it comes to dealing with stains is to print out a basic stain removal guide and hang it by your washer; that way you will have the solution you need for stains where you need it when you need it. Washing and Drying Keep Socks Matched — use a mesh laundry bag for each member of the family; they fill the bag with their socks; wash, dry, return the bag to each person. No more lost socks! Find the tutorial for how to do this here . Throw a dry towel into your dryer with wet laundry — it will absorb moisture and speed up the drying process. To keep dark colors from fading, wash them inside out. Be sure to zip zippers and fasten buttons so they don’t catch during the washing or drying cycle. Miscellaneous Tips Check out this informative article if you need to restore freshness and absorbency to your towels. Go white — use all white towels for the bathroom, they can be washed as one load, and when necessary they can be bleached We’re sure these tips will help residents of our apartment community have the whitest, brightest wash this side of the city. Staying Cool When You're Out and About-image

It’s summertime and temperatures are heating up here in Williamsville. When you are at home at Renaissance Place Apartments, you can hibernate in your lovely, cool home or take a dip in the pool to cool down!  It’s a little different when you must be out and about in the New York heat, so today we’ve got six tips for keeping it cool when you must be out. Drink water. Staying hydrated is one of the most important tools in your arsenal for being comfortable in the summer heat. Take a water bottle with you and be sure to hydrate often. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored, lightweight summer clothing. Opt for natural fabrics like cotton or linen or the newer synthetic blends that are designed to wick away moisture to keep you cool. Plan ahead and stay inside during the warmest hours of the day, between about 10 am and 4 pm, if at all possible. If you can fit it in, a siesta sounds like a marvelous idea, too. Fans help. If you must be in a building or room that is overly warm, even a handheld fan can make a difference, so carry one with you. You can even try out those helicopter fans hats! Seek the green. Grass, trees, and shade all work together to bring the temperature down enough to feel a difference. Stay in the shade as much as possible. Ice, ice, baby — seriously, ice can help. Keep pebbled ice in your freezer to eat for a quick cool down. You may also want to try freezing grapes for a cooling, tasty treat. Creamies, popsicles, and ice cream have the same effect. Of course, you can always stop for ice cream when you are out and about because ice cream is always a great way to cool down. Yelp suggests these ice cream shops nearby . Big Sings Ice Cream is just 3.5 miles away, and a Friendly’s just over 3 miles away. Next month we’ll share some recipes so you can make some homemade ice cream to celebrate National Ice Cream Month in July. Do you have some ideas about how to stay cool? Feel free to share in the comments.

No utensils! — Picnics are one time we can get away with eating with our hands, sandwiches, veggies, and a side of fruit all lend themselves to a meal sans utensils. For a bit more of a bohemian feel use French bread (just tear chunks of bread off the loaf), sliced cheese, a cluster of grapes, for a perfectly satisfying lunch.   If you’re going with the picnic staple, the sandwich, the Cooking Contest Central website offers some Sandwich Making Tips , from what sort of bread to use to what types of fillings are best, and Woman’s Day helps out with 16 of the Best Sandwiches to Make for Summer Picnics . For a traditional picnic, go all out with fried chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, and chocolate cake for dessert. (A quick way to make corn on the cob and keep it hot is to place shucked corn in a clean cooler. Pour boiling water over it until it’s completely covered, replace the lid, and wait for 30 minutes. Yum!) The Cutestuff Cooks blog has family-tested recipes for Mom’s Fried Chicken , Potato Salad , and Sour Cream Chocolate Cake . Springtime in New York can get warm. Summer Means V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N.-image

New York summers are full of sunshine, activities, community events, and of course for many, summer vacations. So whether you are headed out of Williamsville for an extended weekend or for several weeks, we’ve got some tips in today’s Renaissance Place Apartments Blog post to make the whole process easier. Doing the Paperwork Before you leave, make photocopies of your driver’s license, passport, and credit cards. (Or at least take photos of them with your phone to have on hand in case of an emergency.) Arrange to have your mail held, or to have someone pick it up for you. No need to advertise that no one is home. Make copies of your prescriptions to take with you in the event you have a medical issue while you are away. Find and take your health insurance cards, too. Plan an itinerary and leave a copy with a trusted friend or family member. Include contact information with your travel plan. Remove items that are not necessary for your trip from your wallet; it saves a bit of space and ensures important things can’t be lost. Alternatively, create a new travel wallet and only include the items you want/need to take with you on your trip. Preparing Your Apartment Clean your apartment before you leave, paying special attention to taking out the trash, making sure the dishes are done, the dishwasher is empty and dry, and that there are no wet clothes in the washer. If you have plants, make sure they are thoroughly watered. If you are going to be gone for an extended time, put them in the shower, water well, and close the curtain. Doing this will help the plants maintain the moisture. Coming Home to the Renaissance Place Apartments Leave something in the freezer that can be easily defrosted for dinner. Perhaps a frozen gourmet pizza and garlic bread, or even the fixins for a quick omelet. The last thing you want to do after arriving at home is cook a big meal for everyone. Put clean linens on your bed before you head out. After a refreshing shower, there is nothing more heavenly than slipping between the clean sheets and sleeping in your own bed. What are your vacation plans? Headed somewhere traditional, or are you trying new adventures? Be sure to tell us in the comments.
